Whale Trifecta; Humpbacks, Minke, and the T49As!

August 29, 2024 – Whale Trifecta on a gorgeous day! Sailing South wing on wing through Turn Island Pass. Many harbor seals were warming in the sunshine. We found a minke whale on Salmon Bank (nicknamed “Dent”) and had some great views. As we were returning we received a report of 3 humpback whales southbound from Eagle Pt, San Juan Island. We turned and met them. Whales were identified as BCX1377 “Nike”, BCY1072 “Nalu” and BCX1856 “Honu”. Stunning views as they slowly moved southeast towards Salmon Bank. On our return to Friday Harbor we met Biggs/Transient orcas T49A’s (minus T49A1 and T49A2) near Hicks Bay, Shaw Island.
