Two Minke whales on Salmon Bank

September 4, 2024 – Southbound on our morning sail in a magical landscape with fog creeping through the islands. We spotted raccoons foraging on Turn Island, harbor seals resting on the rocks by Pear Pt, a bald eagle watching life from the tree tops, great blue herons flying by, and harbor porpoise swimming by. As we passed Whale Rocks we checked out the Steller sea lions before making our way out to Salmon Bank. We got lucky today finding two minke whales nicknamed “Dent” and “Stubbs”. There were lots of diving birds on the bank as well. During our sail we saw smoke near Cattle Pt and heard there was a fire near the interpretive centre there. Fire crews had put the fire out as we returned through Cattle Pass.
