Sail around Henry Island and exploring New Channel

October 2, 2024 – With a good breeze we had a fast beam reach sail up San Juan Channel. There was a report of orcas passing County Park slowly northbound so we moved quickly down Spieden Channel along the San Juan Island shoreline and against the flooding current. From Battleship Island we came down Henry Island scanning for the orcas but didin’t find them. We came back through Mosquito Pass and Roche Harbor and headed up to New Channel. The calm waters in New Channel were beautiful. We saw harbor seals, Steller sea lions, bald eagles, and hundreds of Bonaparte’s gulls (by Danger Shoal). The Steller sea lions were hauled out at Green Pt in sunset light.
